2005 Annual Meeting held in Shanghai

  The 2005 Annual Meeting of the Association of Chinese Graduate Schools(ACGS)was held in Fudan University from October 22 to 23, 2005. The deans and executive vice deans from 57 graduate schools across China attended the meeting. Yang Wei, the director of the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council, Wang Yajie, the deputy director of the 211 Construction Office of the Ministry of Education, Guo Xinli, and the relevant director of the Academic Degrees Office attended the meeting and made important reports. Wang Qi, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and the Director of Municipal Degree Office were invited to attend the conference and expressed their welcome, thanks and congratulations for the conference held in Shanghai.


  With the theme of "Promoting and Improving the Cultivation of Postgraduates", the conference firstly listened to the "2004 Work Report and Financial Report of the Joint Committee" made by academician Xu Zhihong, the secretary-general of the Joint Committee and the president of Peking University and dean of Graduate School. After that, academician Yang Wei, Director of Academic Degrees Office of the State Council, made a report entitled "Harmonious Development of Graduate Schools"; then the director of Academic Degrees Office of the State Council made a report on "Review and Summary of 23 Years of Degree and Postgraduate Education in China", "Medium and Long-term Development Outline of Degree and Postgraduate Education in China", and "The Development of Graduate Education in China". After that, the director of the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council made a report on "Review and Summary of 23 Years of China's Degree and Postgraduate Education", "Medium and Long-term Development Outline of China's Degree and Postgraduate Education", "Innovation and Development of China's Degree and Postgraduate Education" and "Issues related to the Reform of Postgraduate Cultivation Mechanism". The conference also listened to the exchange speeches of 12 graduate schools on "New Initiatives of Postgraduate Cultivation". During the time of group discussion, the participating deans had a lively discussion on the theme of "Promoting and Improving Graduate Student Cultivation", combined with the conference report and the exchange speeches. The conference achieved the expected purpose and was a complete success.
