In accordance with the work plan of the Association of Chinese Graduate Schools(ACGS), a delegation of deans from 16 graduate schools was organized by the Association of Chinese Graduate Schools(ACGS)to visit seven qualified universities in Hong Kong (The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The City University of Hong Kong, The City University of Hong Kong) from March 20 to 29, 2007. They met with the presidents (vice-presidents) in charge of degree and postgraduate education, leaders of graduate schools (research institutes), leaders of some faculties and departments, and evaluation experts from the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation (HKCAA) to discuss the higher education system and administrative functions in Hong Kong, degree and postgraduate education in Hong Kong, and evaluation of higher education in Hong Kong. Extensive exchanges and discussions were held, and the reform and development of graduate education in the Mainland in recent years were also introduced to the Hong Kong counterparts. The delegation successfully concluded the visit yesterday and returned under the leadership of the leader (Professor Li Guiyuan, Vice President and Dean of Graduate School of Central South University).
The purpose of the visit is to understand the higher education system, policies, current situation and development trend in Hong Kong, the characteristics of degree and postgraduate education, rules and regulations, operation mechanism, assessment system and international exchange of Hong Kong universities, to further strengthen the exchange and cooperation between the Mainland and Hong Kong in degree and postgraduate education, and to learn from their experiences to improve the quality of postgraduate training in China. It covers the education and higher education system in Hong Kong; the management system of Hong Kong universities; the funding mechanism of Hong Kong universities; information management and technology services of universities; human resources, administrative staff management and development of higher education; sources and cultivation of teachers in universities; employee welfare system of universities; the relationship between universities and government affairs, alumni associations and media; classification of postgraduate education in Hong Kong and their respective characteristics; admission, enrollment, The system of admission, admission, academic system and academic registration; fee system and award system; research projects, scientific research and postgraduate training; quality control of postgraduate training; duties and roles of postgraduate supervisors; functions of postgraduate management departments and their relationship with university departments and supervisors; review and management system of degree authorization; situation and management system of professional degrees; internationalization of postgraduate education; employment of postgraduates, relationship between postgraduate training units and The delegation also met with the students of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the students of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
The delegation also had a discussion with the representatives of mainland postgraduates studying in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Hong Kong respectively, and listened to their feelings, opinions and suggestions on the comparison of degree and postgraduate education in Hong Kong and the Mainland.
The visit was greatly assisted by the Dean of the Graduate School of the University of Hong Kong, Mr. Ip Ka On, and the Assistant Dean, Ms. Ho Tsun Shih, and was strongly supported and warmly received by the counterparts of postgraduate education in seven universities in Hong Kong, which ensured a successful and successful visit of the delegation, to whom the delegation expresses its sincere gratitude!
