"The 2001 Summer Seminar of the Association of Chinese Graduate Schools(ACGS）was held in Weihai City, Shandong Province from July 29 to 31, 2001. Comrade Lv Fuyuan, Vice Minister of Education, Comrade Zhou Qifeng, Director of the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council, Comrade Wang Yajie, Deputy Director, Comrade Li Jun, Comrade Han Jianhua, Deputy Director of the Student Department of the Ministry of Education, Comrade Shao Guifang, Vice Governor of Shandong Province, Comrade Cui Yichen, Mayor of Weihai City, as well as the directors of various divisions of the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council and the deans or executive vice deans of 53 graduate schools across the country attended the meeting.

　　The meeting was presided over by academician Han Qide, Executive Vice President and Dean of Graduate School of Peking University and Secretary General of the Joint Council of Deans of Graduate Schools of China. Vice Minister of Ministry of Education Lv Fuyuan gave an important instruction on the second phase of "211" plan and the development strategy of degree and postgraduate education. The meeting also listened to the work reports of various divisions of the Academic Degrees Committee Office of the State Council; discussed the Report on the Development Strategy of Degree and Graduate Education in China; the deans exchanged views on the construction of graduate schools, the responsibilities of deans of graduate schools and the thinking of graduate education in the new century. The meeting also discussed the application of Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences on joining the Joint Association of Deans of Graduate Schools of China, and all the full members voted and agreed to accept Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences as a full member.
