On December 17, 2020, the 2020 annual meeting of the Joint Association of Deans of Chinese Graduate Schools was held in the form of online and offline. The meeting was sponsored by the Joint Association of Deans of Graduate Schools in China and hosted by the Graduate School of Beijing Institute of Technology, the rotating chairman of the Joint Association in 2020. The main venue of the meeting was located in Beijing Institute of Technology, and all the members of the Joint Conference set up sub venues to participate in the meeting in the form of online video. The participants of the main meeting included Huang Baoyin, Director of the Development Center for Academic Degrees and Graduate Education of the Ministry of Education, Hao Tongliang, Director of Graduate Training Division of the Department of Academic Degrees Management and Graduate Education of the Ministry of Education, Gong Weihua, Director of Business Development Division of the Department of Development Planning of the Ministry of Education, Li Shanting, Director of Science and Technology and Graduate Work Division of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Gong Qihuang, Secretary General of the Joint Conference of Deans of Graduate Schools of China, Executive Vice President and Dean of Graduate School of Peking University, and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Mr. Gong Qixiang. Mr. Gong Qihuang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Wang Xiaofeng, vice president of Beijing University of Technology, and more than 20 comrades in charge of graduate schools of more than ten member institutions of the joint meeting in Beijing, and comrades in charge of the Journal of Degree and Graduate Education. The participants of the sub-meeting included 57 member units and some invited universities, and the number of participants reached more than 600.

Conference site

The theme of this conference is "Deepening Graduate Education Centered on Students' Growth and Success", which aims to thoroughly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on graduate education, the important instructions of Premier Li Keqiang and the spirit of National Conference on Graduate Education, give full play to the leading role of the Joint Conference of Deans of Graduate Schools of China in deepening the reform and development of graduate education in the new era, and jointly discuss the issues of graduate education. The conference was organized by the Executive Vice President of the Graduate School of Beijing University of Technology (BUT), Mr. Li Keqiang.

The meeting was hosted by Wang Junzheng, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Beijing Institute of Technology. Wang Xiaofeng and Li Shanting delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

Gong Qihuang delivered the annual work report of the Joint Committee to the conference. He focused on summarizing the main work of the Joint Committee in the past year, informing the rotation and division of work of the current chairmanship, the research of major topics and the establishment of new topics, the development of the Joint Committee itself and the financial situation. He pointed out that in the face of the impact of the new crown epidemic this year, the postgraduate education work of universities encountered great challenges, but the universities withstood the test, made many attempts and innovations, and delivered a satisfactory answer for the postgraduate education work in 2020. He emphasized that the National Conference on Postgraduate Education held this year has sounded a clarion call for us to move forward, and at the important historical juncture of the closing of the 13th Five-Year Plan and the opening of the 14th Five-Year Plan. We hope that all the member universities of the Joint Conference will concentrate their efforts, keep the original intention in mind, focus on the growth and success of students, strive to improve the quality of postgraduate education in China, and make new achievements for building China into a strong country in postgraduate education.

Gong Qihuang delivered the work report

In the report session of the conference, Mr. Huang Baoyin delivered a report entitled "Establishing morality, pursuing excellence, accelerating the construction of a strong country for postgraduate education, and vigorously cultivating high-level talents with both moral and talent". He pointed out that the development of the Party and the country in the new era has put forward the requirements of "high, new and strong" for the supply of high-end talents, and it is urgent to cultivate a large number of high-level talents with both virtue and talent. Therefore, postgraduate education must take the cultivation of socialist builders and successors as its fundamental task, and the effectiveness of moral education as the fundamental standard for testing the work of postgraduate education. He said that the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee opened a new journey of the second century goal, and the National Conference on Postgraduate Education opened a new chapter of building a strong postgraduate education in China. He explained in detail the spirit of the National Conference on Postgraduate Education and the latest postgraduate education policies and documents issued by the Ministry of Education and other ministries, and hoped that universities nationwide would fully understand the historical orientation, strategic position and sacred mission of postgraduate education, make scientific judgment on the international trend with a global perspective, accurately grasp the development orientation with a historical perspective, maintain a high degree of consciousness on the mission with a global perspective, and maintain a high degree of self-confidence on the construction of a strong country with a contemporary perspective. Huang Baoyin gave a report on the conference

Hao Tongliang gave an in-depth interpretation of the series of postgraduate education reform documents recently released by the Ministry of Education. He briefly summarized the development history, cultivation scale and achievements of China's postgraduate education, and analyzed the current opportunities, challenges and problems, mainly the coexistence of achievements and shortcomings, the influence and gaps, and the intertwining of lack and misalignment. He gave a detailed interpretation of the Opinions on Accelerating the Reform and Development of Graduate Education in the New Era jointly issued by the Ministry of Education, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Finance, and put forward reform ideas and specific measures on how to implement the principles of "establishing moral education, serving demand, improving quality and pursuing excellence", as well as the future development of graduate education in China. He put forward his thoughts on the future development of postgraduate education in China, namely, from "one to many", promoting diversified cultivation of postgraduates; from "quantity to quality", fully understanding the dialectical unity of "quantity" and "quality"; from "quantity" to "quality", and from "quality" to "quality". Professor Yan Guangcai of East China Normal University made a detailed report on the progress of compiling the Annual Report of China Postgraduate Education (2019) and the proposed topics of the 2020 Annual Report.
