The 2010 Annual Meeting of the Association of Chinese Graduate Schools(ACGS）of China was held in Nanjing from November 4 to November 6, 2010. The theme of the conference is to develop professional degree graduate education and cultivate top-notch innovative talents. Li Xiaomin, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, Li Jun, Vice Director of Academic Degrees Office of the State Council, Guo Xinli, Liu Jinghui, Secretary General of China Scholarship Council, leaders of the Department of Degrees and Postgraduates, Professor Chen Jun, President of Nanjing University, leaders of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and more than 90 representatives from 57 graduate schools and universities attended the conference. Li Jingshe, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of our university, attended the meeting.
Vice Governor Li Xiaomin and President of Nanjing University Prof. Chen Jun delivered welcome speeches on behalf of Jiangsu Province and Nanjing University respectively. Deputy Director Guo Xinli made a speech. Director Guo introduced the main work of graduate education of the Degree Office this year, and put forward the work idea of building a graduate education system with Chinese characteristics and international level in the context of studying the spirit of the Central Education Work Conference and implementing the National Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development Plan (2010-2020). Deputy Director Li Jun made a special report on "Postgraduate professional degree education in reform and development", discussing the background and significance of developing postgraduate professional degree education in China, and proposing the principles and main measures for developing postgraduate professional degree education.
Han Qide, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, also congratulated the conference. As the predecessor of the deans of graduate schools, Vice Chairman Han Qide delivered a passionate speech, recalling the growth of the Joint Council of Deans of Graduate Schools and praising the role of the Joint Council in the development of graduate education in China. It was pointed out that in the current new period of restructuring of graduate education, the Joint Council of Deans of Graduate Schools would better play the role of research, consultation and guidance.
In the group discussion, the representatives introduced the situation of professional degree graduate education and cultivation of top-notch innovative talents in their universities. According to the speeches of Director Guo and Director Li, there were extensive and in-depth exchanges on the issues of postgraduate education restructuring, quality student source, cultivation program, quality assessment, guarantee system, internationalization and so on.
