At the invitation of the President of the Council on Graduate Studies (CGS), the Chinese Association of Graduate School Deans (ACGS) sent its dean to attend the 2008 Global Strategic Leadership Summit on Graduate Education held in Florence, Italy, from August 31 to September 2, 2008.
The conference was sponsored by the American Council on Graduate Education and sponsored by ProQuest. The conference was attended by 35 experts in graduate education administration and research from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, South Africa, China, and Hong Kong. The conference was organized around the academic ethics of graduate education. Its topics included: national policy frameworks and their significant differences, institutional exploration for creating a climate of academic integrity, global affairs factors affecting education and training, and more. The conference is designed to help university leaders to build academic ethics institutionally.
Cheng Chongqing (Vice President and Dean of Graduate School of Nanjing University), Sun Shigang (Vice President and Dean of Graduate School of Xiamen University) and Liao Xiaoling, Director of the Secretariat of the Joint Conference, attended the conference and were invited to introduce the situation of graduate education in China and give a special report on the conference respectively. The participants showed great concern and interest in Chinese postgraduate education. Details of the conference will be reported at the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Joint Conference.
