The theme of this conference is "Towards Excellence in Graduate Education in China - Review and Prospects", which consists of two parts: plenary session and four parallel forums. In the plenary session, Director Huang Baoyin made a report entitled "Give full play to the functions of degree center and help modernize the governance system and capacity of graduate education", pointing out that in order to modernize China's graduate education by 2035, it is more important to improve the quality besides the quantity, so it is the right time to pursue quality and excellence. Professor Sally Pratt, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS), Dr. Alexander Hasgall, Director of EUA-CDE, and Professor Sue Pratt, President of the Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR), have also presented the report of the conference. Researcher Li Haisheng, Director of Degree Office of Graduate School of East China Normal University, reported on the compilation and promotion of Annual Report on Graduate Education in China; Wang Zhanjun, Vice President of National Society for Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, pointed out in the report of the conference that in 2019, the 70th anniversary of the founding of the new China and the 20-year development of the Joint Conference of Deans will be held soon, which is an important point of Chinese graduate education. We should respect the history and face the future, open our vision and grasp the big trend, promote the great development and change of Chinese postgraduate education, and strive to build a strong country for postgraduate education, and then realize the great goal of building a strong education country.

The four parallel forums were chaired by Zhang Wen (East China Normal University), Chen Chuanfu (Wuhan University), Zang Fengyu (Renmin University of China) and Wang Tongmin (Dalian University of Science and Technology), respectively. The topics were "Exploration and Practice of Internationalization of Graduate Student Cultivation in the Context of 'Double First-class'", "Professional Degree Graduate Education in China in the New Era", and "New Model of Graduate Student Cultivation in the Informationized Environment". The participating deans and experts exchanged and discussed extensively on these issues of common concern and reached a number of consensus, and expressed that they should actively contribute to the process of building a strong postgraduate education with a strong sense of responsibility and mission and make new achievements.

During the meeting, the secretary-general Gong Qihuang also presided over the joint session of the work. By a show of hands, all the deans of the member units voted unanimously for the new chairmanship: Graduate School of Beijing University of Technology, Graduate School of Tianjin University, Graduate School of Tongji University, Graduate School of Sichuan University and Graduate School of Peking University (permanent). The newly elected presidents expressed their gratitude to the General Assembly on behalf of their units. They thanked all the presidents for their trust, and also said that they would fully cooperate with the secretariat of the Joint Committee to do a good job and live up to the expectations.
