From March 28 to 31, 2004, the Asecretariat of Association of Chinese Graduate Schools held an extended meeting of deans of presidential units in the International Conference Center of Peking University, and discussed issues related to "reform of postgraduate training mechanism" and "construction of graduate schools". The meeting was attended by the director of the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council.

　　The meeting was attended by Academician Zhou Qifeng, Director of Academic Degrees Office of the State Council, Director Liang Guoxiong, Director Sun Yegang, Director Zhao Yuxia, Deputy Director Xu Weiqing, and Deans and Executive Vice Deans of Graduate Schools of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Jilin University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The meeting discussed and formed the "Suggestions on Reforming Postgraduate Training Mechanism (Discussion Draft)" which was submitted to the 2004 working meeting of the Joint Committee (Xiamen) for discussion, and also discussed the issues related to the construction of graduate schools. It can be said that this meeting is a preparatory meeting for the working meeting of the Joint Committee (Xiamen).
