On February 21, 2021, the working meeting of the Presidents of the Joint Council of Deans of Graduate Schools of China in 2021 was held in the form of web video conference. Gong Qihuang, Executive Vice President, Provost and Dean of Graduate School of Peking University, Jiang Guohua, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Peking University, Wang Tianbing, Yang Lihua, Chen Peng, Xu Ming, Vice Presidents and Liao Xiaoling, Director of the Office of the Secretariat of the Joint Conference, Wang Junzheng, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Beijing University of Technology, Huang Hongwei, President of Graduate School of Tongji University, Wan Xuehong, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Sichuan University, Tianjin University Zheng Gang, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Tianjin University, Lu Zhengsong, Director of Admissions Office and Zhang Liqian, Director of General Office attended the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Gong Qihuang, Secretary General of the Joint Committee. He emphasized that the main task of the Joint Committee in 2021 is to continue to study and understand the spirit of the National Conference on Graduate Education, implement the "Ten Special Actions to Accelerate the Cultivation of High-level Talents" of the Ministry of Education, and promote the development of graduate education to high quality.
The president of the meeting discussed the main points of the work of the Joint Committee in 2021 and the next development strategy. It was decided that the Joint Committee would focus on "implementing the spirit of the National Conference on Graduate Education and accelerating the ten special actions for high-level talent cultivation" of the Ministry of Education in 2021, and organize thematic seminars and study and exchange activities. It was decided to continue the work of the Joint Committee on "Research on Major Issues in Graduate Education", and the research on major issues in 2021 will focus on "Cultivation of high-level talents in basic disciplines and core technologies in key fields", "Quality Improvement of Curriculum In 2021, the major research projects will focus on "Cultivating high-level talents in basic disciplines and core technologies in key fields", "Improving the quality of teaching materials" and "Exploring medical degree model and dissertation evaluation", which are open to all member units for application. The meeting studied and clarified the work related to the membership of new member units. The meeting decided to hold the 2021 annual meeting of the Joint Conference in Tianjin at the end of July 2021 on the occasion of the first anniversary of the National Conference on Postgraduate Education. The meeting agreed to the proposed topics of the Annual Report on Graduate Education 2020, which was announced by East China Normal University at the annual meeting of the Joint Conference 2020. The meeting proposed that the Secretariat of the Joint Conference should continue to maintain close contact with international organizations related to graduate education, and strengthen the communication and cooperation between Chinese graduate education and its counterparts in the world. The meeting also discussed the issues related to the construction of the Joint Committee itself. Finally, the meeting proposed that the Joint Committee should play a greater role in the national think tank of graduate education through the joint efforts of its members.
